Biography of Alexander Crum
Alexander Crum (1828-1893) was an alumnus of the University who was a Rector's Assessor, 1878 to 1880, and Dean of Faculties from 1885 to 1888.
Born in Thornliebank, Crum studied at the University and in Germany. He headed the family calico printing firm, J&W Crum, at the Thornliebank Printworks and greatly expanded the business. The company was also responsible for construction and improvements in local housing, creating a model village in Thornliebank.
