John Connell
Biography of John Connell
Sir John Connell (1765-1831) was an alumnus of the University and Dean of Faculties on four occasions: from 1817 to 1819; 1821 to 1823; 1825 to 1827 and 1829 to 1830.
Connell was born in Glasgow, the son of a Lord Provost. He matriculated to study at the University in 1777 and subsequently became an advocate, Sheriff of Renfrewshire, Procurator for the Church of Scotland and Judge-Admiral of Scotland. He was knighted in 1820.
