Biography of Richard Trainor

Richard Hughes (Rick) Trainor (1948- ) held a personal chair in Social History at the University, 1995 to 2000. He was appointed Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences in 1992 and was Vice-Principal from 1996 to 2000.

Born in the USA, Trainor studied at Brown University and Princeton and then at the University of Oxford. He came to Glasgow in 1979 to lecture in the University's Department of Economic and Social History. In 2000 he was appointed Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Social History at the University of Greenwich and he became Principal of King's College London in 2004.
