John Davidson

Biography of John Davidson

John Davidson was Principal of the University from 1556 to 1574.

Born in Aberdeenshire c 1520, Davidson studied at King's College, Aberdeen, graduating MA and becoming a regent. He went to study at the University of Paris in 1549 (his brother William was a regent there) and within three years of his return to Scotland as Principal of the University, he had joined the Protestant reformist movement. He left the University to become minister of Hamilton.
