William Craig

Biography of William Craig

William Craig, Lord Craig (1745-1813), was an alumnus of the University who was Rector from 1801 to 1803.

Born in Glasgow, Craig was the son the Reverend William Craig, a Dean at the University. He became an advocate who was raised to was the Court of Session in 1792 with the title Lord Craig. In 1795 he became a judge in the Court of Judiciary. He took a great interest in literary pursuits and in 1783 was made a literary fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.
