Biography of Sir Adam Ferguson of Kilkerran
Sir Adam Ferguson of Kilkerran (1733-1813) was Rector of the University from 1768 to 1770. His opponent in the 1768 rectorial election was the political philosopher Adam Smith.
Ferguson was an Ayrshire MP and is referred to in Robert Burns' The Author's Earnest Cry And Prayer as "Thee, aith-detesting, chaste Kilkerran."
