Biography of John Boyle 3rd Earl of Glasgow

John Boyle, 3rd Earl of Glasgow (1714-1775) was Rector of the University from 1755 to 1757.

Boyle was a soldier who lost a hand in the Battle of Fontenoy in 1745 and was wounded at the Battle of Lauffeldt in 1747. He was Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland for nine years.
