William Graham 2nd Duke of Montrose

Biography of William Graham 2nd Duke of Montrose

William Graham, 2nd Duke of Montrose (c 1712-1790) was Chancellor of the University from 1743 until 1780. He was elected following the death of his father James Graham, 1st Duke of Montrose in 1742.

In a letter dated 13 December 1780, Montrose notified the University that he wished to demit the office of Chancellor as, due to his age and infirmities, he felt he was "...incapable of giving that attention to the affairs of the University and the Members of it which I would wish...". He was succeeded as Chancellor in 1780 by his son James Graham, 3rd Duke of Montrose.
