Biography of Frank Cecil Mayall Bamford
Surgeon Commander Frank Cecil Mayall Bamford was born in Glasgow and graduated MB, ChB from the University in 1926. He joined the Royal Navy and served aboard the heavy cruiser HMS Dorsetshire.
The Dorsetshire was with the Eastern Fleet in the Indian Ocean when she and her sister ship HMS Cornwall were sunk by Japanese dive-bombers on 5 April 1942. Bamford was one of more than 230 men from Dorsetshire who died in the engagement.
