Biography of Frederic William Holton

Lieutenant Frederic William Holton was born in Glasgow and attended Rutherglen Academy. He became an apprentice with the warehousemen Arthur & Co but left to study at the University, where he graduated MA in 1934. He trained at Jordanhill Training College and became a teacher of English at Hyndland Secondary School in the city. He joined the Royal Navy during the war.

Holton was killed on 10 July 1944 when his vessel HM Motor Minesweeper 55 was sunk off the coast of Normandy by a mine.
