Biography of John Buchanan

John Buchanan bequeathed £4,000 to the University in 1930 for the foundation of two bursaries in Medicine, to be called the John Buchanan Bursaries.

Buchanan was the son of a tea merchant. He graduated from the University MB, CM in 1882 and MD in 1886 and became District Medical Officer at Ladies Charity and Lying-in Hospital, Liverpool, and held various medical and surgical positions in the north of England, as well as serving as Surgeon for the Anchor and Allan shipping lines.
