Biography of King Charles II

Charles II (1630-1685) became King of England, Scotland, and Ireland when the monarchy was restored in 1660.

After the Restoration in 1660, the University removed the College Arms from their position above the gateway on the newly-completed Old College. They were replaced with the Royal Arms and the initials "CR2".
