Biography of John Orr of Barrowfield
John Orr (fl 1700-1743) of Barrowfield gave £500 to the University in 1730, stipulating that the interest was to be used to buy books for the library.
Orr studied Arts and Divinity at the University in 1700-1701, before becoming a merchant. He owned a large estate in Camlachie and in 1735 acquired the lands of Stobcross. He served as Rector from 1731 to 1733 and 1742 until 1743.
