Description
The Chair of General Practice was founded in 1974 in memory of Sir Stanley Norie-Miller (1888-1973), Chairman and Managing Director, and latterly Governor, of General Accident Fire and Life Assurance Corporation.
The General Accident and Employers Liability Assurance Association was founded in Perth in 1885 as an insurance company. In 1906 it became the General Accident Fire and Life Assurance Corporation, launching its life assurance business. In 1998 GA merged with Commercial Union to form CGU, which merged in turn with Norwich Union in 2000 to form Aviva.
