The accountancy firm Ernst & Young was created by the merger in 1989 of Arthur Young & Co and Ernst & Whinney. The former company had been founded in 1906 by a graduate of the University, (Robert) Arthur Young (1863-1948).

In 2007 the firm employs 114,000 people in 140 countries.
