The Captain HS Ranken, VC, Memorial Prize was founded in 1924 by Henry Ranken, a minister of Irvine, and Mrs Ranken in memory of their son Harry Sherwood Ranken (1883-1914) VC, Captain RAMC, MB 1905, who died of wounds received in action at Haute-Avesnes in 1914. It is awarded annually to the candidate who obtains the highest number of marks in the professional examinations in Pathology. There is also a biography of Captain Ranken.
