David Bain Gorrie

David Bain Gorrie was born on 25th October 1891 in Appin, Argyleshire. His father, John, was a gamekeeper.
David came to the University of Glasgow in 1909 and whilst he never graduated he spent many years there until the outbreak of the war. During this time he took a variety of subjects in the Arts and showed a particular interest in languages taking: Latin, Greek and Elementary Hebrew. He was also involved in extra-curricular activities and was in the Shinty Team and the Officers Training Corps.
During the war he fought in the 6th Cameron Highlanders and it was the Battle of Loos where he died during fighting on the 26th September 1915, one month before his 24th birthday.
