Biography of William Campbell
William Campbell was born in 1807, the son of Dugald, of Skerrington, part of an aristocratic Scottish family. He attended the University in 1820. He died, at only 18 years of age on 1 November 1825, in a shipwreck. The Christiana, a ship bound for Trinidad from Glasgow was wrecked on Patterson's Rock, Mull of Kintyre.
His younger brother, Robert, also attended the University, later becoming a magistrate in Ayrshire. Robert's son, William, became the first Catholic judge in Scotland, under the title Lord Skerrington.
