Biography of Donald Lamont

Donald Lamont first enrolled at the University in 1893 to study an Arts course.

He was born around 1867 in Lyndale, Prince Edward Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, son of teacher Ewen Lamont and brother of fellow Glasgow student Murdoch Lamont.

Lamont enrolled aged 26 to study an Arts course, spending a total of six years studying at Glasgow. He undertook classes in Latin & Greek (1893-4); Moral philosophy, Mathematics and Logic (1894-5); Mathematics, English and Natural Philosophy (1896-7). He continued on to study Divinity over two years from 1897, taking classes in Hebrew, Church History, and Biblical Criticism.

Lamont was subsequently licenced by the presbytery of Islay in 1900 before being ordained at the Rothesay Gaelic Church in the same year. In 1920, Lamont returned to Canada where he was minister on Price Edward Island.

Reverend Lamont died on the 31 May 1942.
