Biography of Andrew Matthew William Faulds
Andrew Matthew William Faulds was born in Isoko, Tanganyika, modern day Tanzania, son of Reverend Matthew Harold Faulds, a Presbyterian minister working as a missionary in Africa.
Schooled in Scotland, Andrew enrolled at the University of Glasgow in 1941. He studied English and History for one year on an Educational Authority grant.
Faulds embarked on an acting career, joining the Shakespeare Memorial Company (1948-1951), and the BBC Repertory Company, with numerous film, TV and radio performances. He entered politics, joining the Labour party firstly as an MP in 1966 (Smethwick, 1966-74, and Warley East 1974-97), while continuing with his acting career. Faulds would remain in politics until his retirement in 1997, and died in 2000, aged 77.
