Biography of George Dalziel
George Dalziel graduated from the University of Glasgow MB in 1912. He was born in Glasgow, the son of Sir Kennedy Dalziel, a notable surgeon who also worked at the Western Infirmary.
Dalziel first matriculated at the University in 1906 to study medicine aged 17. After graduating in 1912 he worked at the Western Infirmary, occupying various resident posts. His medical career was interrupted by the outbreak of war, in which he was awarded the Military Cross for his service.
After the war Dalziel was appointed to work in the surgical team. In 1923 he became a Fellow of the Royal Faculty of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, and in 1940 he became a visiting surgeon of the Western Infirmary. He retired in 1954.
