Philip Jenkins was John Elder Professor of Naval Architecture, 1886 to 1891.

Jenkins studied at the Royal Naval College and entered Admiralty service. He was later appointed as assistant to the Chief Ship Surveyor at Lloys'd Register, before succeeding Francis Elgar in the Chair of Naval Architecture at the University in 1886.

Jenkins acted as Chief Ship Surveyor to the British Corporation for the Survey and Registry of Shipping before his death at the age of 37.
