Andrew Dunnett Hook was Bradley Professor of English Literature from 1979 to 1998.

A graduate of the Universities of Edinburgh (MA, 1954) and Princeton (PhD, 1960), Hook was a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh from 1961 to 1971 and Senior Lecturer in English at the University of Aberdeen from 1971 to 1979. He is an authority on Scottish literture and Scotland's cultural links with America, and is the author of many books including Scotland and America: a study of cultural relations 1750-1835 (1975) and From Goosecreek to Gandercleugh: studies in Scottish-American literary and cultural history (1999).
