Biography of John Ferguson Smith
John Ferguson-Smith, one of Britain's leading dermatologists, graduated in arts at the University of Glasgow in 1907 and then in medicine in 1911.
He attained a house physician post in the Western Infirmary in Glasgow before he began to specialise in diseases of the skin in 1922.
John Ferguson-Smith then became consultant physician in diseases of the skin at Glasgow Royal Infirmary and was also lecturer in dermatology and Carnegie Research Scholar in pathology at the University of Glasgow.
John Ferguson-Smith's work on the diseases of the skin led to the naming of a syndrome for him: Ferguson-Smith's Syndrome (also called Ferguson Smith’s epithelioma or Smith’s keratoacanthoma).

John Ferguson-Smith is the father of the geneticist Malcolm Ferguson-Smith.
He retired in 1948 and died in 1978.
