Ian Macdonald

Biography of Ian Macdonald

Ian Wilson Macdonald (1907-1989) was Johnstone Smith Professor of Accountancy at the University from 1938 until 1950.

Born in Old Cumnock, Macdonald was a partner in the accountancy firm Kerr MacLeod & Macfarlan from 1933 to 1953 and a director of several companies including Lloyds Bank, from 1961 to 1978. He served on many Government committees, including the Committees of Inquiry into the Port Transport Industry (in 1945), the Omnibus Industry (1946) and Railwaymen's Wages and Hours of Work (1947).
