Addison 1727-1897 reads: Obtained a Cadetship in the East India Company's Service; on going out was wrecked in the "Kingston" 178-; held a Commission as a "Lieutenant Fireworker" in the Company's service at Madras; was complimented by Lord Cornwallis in Brigade Orders of 20th May, 1787, "for his successful endeavours to fire the powder contained in shells the instant they touch the ground"; wounded at the Capture of Nundydoorg (First Siege of Seringapatam); recommended in Despatch of 19th November, 1793, by Lord Abercombie to Sir Robert Abercombie as "an officer of genius and merit"; sent on Embassy to Siam prior 1801; held rank at his death as Lieutenant- Colonel of Artillery in Honourable East India Company's Civil Service; born 3rd December, 1761; died 14th January, 1821; son of James Hill, MA 1747 .
