Addison 1727-1897 reads: Educated as a Civil Engineer, and was for some time on staff of late Robert Stephenson; Secretary to Society of Arts, 1848-52; Secretary of Crystal Palace Co., 1852-73, and a Director thereof, 1873-78; Editor of Macmillian's Magazine for several years, and also of the Dictionary of Music and Musicians; Founder and Honorary Secretary of Palestine Exploration Fund, 1865; Director of the Royal College of Music, London,1882-94; K.B. 1883; C.B.(Civil), 1894; born 1820.
