About this Site

The University of Glasgow Story was funded by the Chancellor's Fund in March 2006 until August 2008. It was launched on Commemoration Day, 20 June 2007.

We are continuing to build this authoritative resource on the people and events that have shaped our University since foundation in 1451.

Included are pages about:

• the people who have graduated from the University between 1451 and 1911
• the people who appear on the Memorial Gates
• the people who fell in the First and Second World Wars
• the people who have held senior positions in the University
• the contribution of women in the University

The website, database and content management system have been designed and developed by Brian Aitken of the Humanities Advanced Technology and Information Institute (HATII).

Although there are no longer any staff dedicated to working full-time on the site, Archive Services welcome any comments and contributions of photographs and information. Queries about any aspect of the University's history are always welcome.
